LWC Family and Friends

March 20, 2020

Church family, if you have not already, send Pastor Daniel a friend request on Facebook and get notifications for live video encouragements throughout the days ahead.

In order to serve my congregation I will be increasing my use of live video on both Facebook and Instagram. I will be using these tools to help lead prayers, to give a biblical point of view on what is happening and, of course, to tell you the good news of Jesus Christ.

Some of these videos will be coming from the Living Way Church (Poway, California) account, others will come from my personal accounts, and I may get a YouTube account up and running as well.

In addition, on Sunday at 10:00 AM I will be leading a time of prayer and Bible study that I want the whole church to be able to watch and participate in together.

Finally, if you are able to, try to acquire elements that can be used for communion in your home with your family members.

Church members, check your email inbox as we will try to send out more instructions on how you can do church at home.

Jesus Christ is with us, and you are never alone.

As the COVID-19 crisis continues to unfold we are all struck by the magnitude and the speed of change that has taken place to our way of life. This goes beyond inconvenience into an unexpected new way of living. And while we all hope that these changes are brief in nature, we cannot know for certain how long this will last.

What I do want you to be absolutely assured of is that your church family is with you. We will do everything that we can to support each other during these times. And please know that you are in my prayers every single day.

Sadly, for the time being we will suspend all church in-person gatherings. Core Groups, Bible Studies, Youth Group and even our Sunday morning worship services. This decision is one of the most painful decisions I have ever had to make so I would like you to understand why we are doing this. In short, because we want to continue to give good news and be great neighbors.

If you are on our email list you will have just received an email with more information about how you can help and receive help during this time. If you are not on our email list please send us a message so that you can be added.

Nobody is better equipped to handle this type of trial than the Church of Jesus Christ. Elder Joe Quinn told me this morning that if the President is calling for 15 days to slow the spread than we should be calling for 15 days of concentrated prayer. This is a good idea. Every day that you are asked to stay home, use as a day to get on your knees in prayer. The prayers of the righteous are powerful and effective. I believe we are going to see incredible miracles. I believe that there will be an amazing revival that comes as a result of this. The attitudes that we present on social media, how we reach out to our neighbors, and the love that we demonstrate towards one another will be a brilliant light shining in the midst of the darkest of times. In the economically challenging days that are before us we will show the world that our faith is not in earthly riches, but in the King who paid it all for us. As our world tastes the bitterness of loneliness, we will be able to introduce them to the sweetness of friendship with Jesus.

These are remarkable times, they feel almost Biblical in their scope, don’t they? Isn’t it wonderful that we have the Bible to help guide us through such times?

Jesus said in John 16:32-33 “A time is coming and in fact has come where you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Take heart, church, Jesus is with us.

We are living in very interesting days. The media attention about the coronavirus is astounding. It is something that is on all of our minds.  LWC is making plans to assure that we are fulfilling our mission to give good news and to be great neighbors.

Let’s start with the good news: God is in control! Jesus is on the throne. He has not given us a spirit of fear but a spirit of power, love and self-control. Christ has gained for us eternal salvation through His own suffering, His power and His resurrection. In the midst of times of darkness, a church that is secure in Christ will shine brighter than the sun. I want to remind you of the promises of Psalm 91. “Those who dwell in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty… no evil shall be allowed to befall you, no plague come near your tent.” These promises of divine protection of our souls are always true.

We will continue to hold our Sunday morning worship gatherings. Hebrews 10:25 commands us to not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but to encourage each other.  Our congregation typically does not exceed 250 on a Sunday morning, but we will still make plans to honor such a demand. If we do have more than 250 people in attendance on Sunday we will not allow additional entry. In addition to this we will be canceling our 9:00 AM Sunday School classes and fellowship time through the end of March. We will only be having our 10:00 AM services. Furthermore in our services we ask that you observe the advised “social distancing” measure of 6 feet of space between individuals. Spread out, be comfortable. We have plenty of space in our sanctuary that seats up to 650 people.
Our weekly worship services will not be suspended, but at the same time, it is always prudent to use good common sense regarding your own health when considering whether or not to participate in corporate gatherings. If you are fevered, coughing or have a weakened immune system, we ask that you stay home and watch the livestream of our service on Facebook live www.facebook.com/LWCPoway/live and, if you are inclined to give online you can get instructions on how to do so here…https://www.lwcpoway.com/give/
Our Prayer
“Heavenly Father, your name is holy and we worship you. We pray for your kingdom to come, and your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. We know that in heaven there is no sickness, no death, no tears and no pain, for the old order has passed away. We long for that day to be our reality on earth as well. We pray, come quickly, Lord Jesus. But as we wait for that day we recognize how desperately this world needs the hope that is found only in you. So we pray for the message of that hope to be manifested in how we live. We ask for the boldness to clearly proclaim the Gospel of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ to a world that is in need. We ask that you turn the hearts of the people towards you. We ask that you give us a spirit of courage and compassion. We ask that you display in us a spirit of gratitude and gentleness. We want to be spirit-filled and spirit-led in each decision that we make. In these days where our world seems so afraid, we ask that the courage that comes from knowing you stands out in us.
We pray for the civil authorities who have responsibility over our government, that they are given divine wisdom in how they can best perform their sworn duties to care for our nation.
We pray for the medical professionals, the doctors and nurses, to have skill and stamina as they care for the ill..
We pray for those who are sick, that you would heal them.
We pray for those who are vulnerable, that you would protect them.
We pray for those who are mourning, that you would comfort them.
We pray for those who are impatient and frustrated, that you would console them.
We pray for those who are financially impacted by this, that you would provide for them.
We pray for our children to see in us great confidence.
We pray for our parents that they would see in us great competence.
We pray for our peers that they would see in us great care.
May we care for each other in the way that you have uniquely equipped each of us to do, with the gifts of the Spirit and the guidance of the Scriptures. You are good and you do good, all the time. We trust in you.  May we bring you honor by loving our neighbors well. Jesus, we stand upon your promises. We know that you are the King of the world and that at your name every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that you are Lord to the glory of Father. We trust in you. We give you glory. We worship and love you, because we know that you loved us first, and you will never stop loving us. Amen.”
